We all know that good putting is the quickest way to improve your golf scores. So here are some good drills to guide you through your practice time and get to those lower numbers that you want to post in your golf game. Plan on spending at least 50% of your practice time on the putting green, and split the other 50% between chipping and full swing. The more time spent rolling putts and working on these drills the truer and longer your putting stroke will hold up on the course!
Start with short putt drills. The higher your skill and confidence in short putts, from one to six, or even eight feet, the less pressure there will be on lag putts, and even on your greenside chips, as well as pitches and approach shots. The pressure is lessened on a 40 foot lag if you know you can easily drain up to a six, eight or ten foot putt. Work on these drills to increase your performance on these critical putts.

Getting Started! Your First Time on the Golf Course

Not to mention finding the golf cart, getting clubs loaded on the back, and finding the first tee. Continue reading →
Now you have the basic grip, alignment and body positions down, now SWING! What? How do I move from here? Well, your PGA Instructor will help you get started with the basic swing motions right away and have you hitting your first golf shots in your first lesson!
Along with the technical positions and movements you will learn, the basic foundation of tempo, rhythm, timing and balance will be explained to you. There are many instruction aids that are used to help a new golfer learn to “feel” these principals. The natural reaction for a new golfer is to swing fast and swing hard. This usually leads to a loss of good balance. This takes us back to the importance of good posture that was described in the fundamental of grip, alignment and set up. Feet shoulder width apart, athletic knee bend and hip tilt with a straight back – this leads to good balance. Continue reading →
